What’s Going On?
Oracle said it will introduce a platform-as-a-service blockchain product this month and decentralised ledger-based applications in June.
Why Does It Matter?
Oracle – the world’s second-largest software company – has joined forces with Banco de Chile, Thomas Kurian, President of Product Development, told Bloomberg.
The government of Nigeria is another Oracle client, it was reported. The African nation’s politicians are looking to use blockchain tech to document customs and import duties. Oracle also plans to sell blockchain services to pharmaceutical companies to track and trace medicine.
Is Oracle New To Blockchain
Oracle first unveiled the blockchain platform in October last year, reported CoinDesk; the company hopes to extend and streamline its existing cloud services with the new offering. Last year also saw Oracle join the Linux Foundation’s open source blockchain project Hyperledger, reported EconoTimes.
Kurian said Oracle’s new blockchain will be compatible with other platforms, reported Silicon, which will be welcome by other big-name technology companies moving into the blockchain and crypto space.
Last month we reported that Oracle’s blockchain offerings would be in competition with Amazon and IBM.
