What’s Going On?
Enterprise software heavyweight SAP has released its Leonardo Blockchain service to the open market.
Why Does It Matter?
According to SAP, the Leonardo Blockchain blockchain-as-service launch will provide support for Hyperledger Fabric and MultiChain, reported ZDNet.
Is This A First?
Not really – SAP joins other enterprise companies like Oracle, IBM, Microsoft and Amazon who have already introduced blockchain services for customers, reported TechCrunch. For SAP, which many companies use for back-office management, the blockchain could help with services including supply chain management.
SAP has also launched a global blockchain consortium with seven founding members, reported ITProPortal. It is hoped this will speed up adoption of the blockchain technology. Founders include Intel, HPE, and A3 by Airbus SE in addition to SAP.
SAP said it will also release SAP Cloud Platform on IBM Cloud as a private deployment. The joint solution is designed to allow clients managing sensitive data to use new tech options without jeopardising existing security and control.
